Kintampo-Tamale Accident: Politicians Caution Ghana Police Service

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ofoase Ayirebi has urged the Police Service to beef up security on Ghana's roads.

Speaking on Peace FM's 'Kokrokoo', Kojo Oppong Nkrumah expressed disgust over the lax attitude by the Police service in preventing road accidents in the country.

He explained that the Police have recently failed to check poorly maintained vehicles used by drivers on the roads and also failed to check over-speeding.

The aspiring MP was commenting on the gory road accident that occurred on the Kintampo-Tamale highway on Wednesday.

About 60 people have been pronounced dead when a truck carrying boxes of tomatoes from Burkina Faso and a Metro Mass Transit Bus heading to Tamale from Kumasi collided on the highway.

According to reports, the Metro Mass driver lost control of the vehicle which resulted in the accident.

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah appealed to the security service to wake up and prevent further road accidents.

Addressing the issue, the General Secretary of the People's National Convention also commiserated with the families of the deceased.

Feeding into the submissions by his colleague, Atik Mohammed was worried about over-speeding and the poor maintenance culture of vehicular drivers.

He also expressed worry over the malfunctioning speed guns used by the Police Service to check over-speeding on the roads.

He also called urged the security service to make it their top priority to safeguard the lives of passengers on the road.
