Hearing Impaired Clamour For Nana Addo

Persons with hearing and speaking impairments living in Takoradi have thrown their weight behind the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the run up to the  November 7 elections  to help end the hopeless conditions they find themselves.

The group, numbering about fifty who thronged The New Crusading GUIDE office in Takoradi to declare their support for the NPP, said they would carry the message of the NPP to all persons with hearing and speaking impairment in the Western Region to ensure that the party wins this year’s election.

According to them, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration led by President John Mahama has mismanaged the economy so badly and brought severe hardship on Ghanaians, especially the vulnerable in society.

Speaking through a signed language interpreter, Spokesperson for the group, Mr. Joseph Arthur, said they have monitored the message of the NPP and its Flagbearer, Nana Akufo Addo, since 2008 and are convinced that the NPP is the best choice for Ghana.

He said they have closely observed the eight years performance of the NPP government and the kind of policies and programmes the party is currently proposing, stating that, the NPP has the panacea to transform the country’s economy.

He said the performance of the NDC administration on the other hand, has been abysmal and unpromising, adding that, the NDC has no record to stand on.

Mr. Arthur pointed out that the increases in utility tariffs, petroleum and prices of general goods, resulting into high cost of living has been symptomatic to the style of governance under the NDC over the last seven years.

“We know what is happening. If you think because we can’t hear and speak, we are ignorant of how this economy is being run then you’re deceiving yourself. We feel the hardship”, he said.

He maintained: “there is no clear policy that seeks to improve the well-being of the disabled and the vulnerable under this government. We don’t even get the meager allocation of Common Fund due us”.

“Our only solution now is to change this government that’s why this time round we’re joining the campaign to do whatever we can to ensure that Nana Akufo Addo becomes president to change our situation”, he said.

Mr. Arthur urged the NPP to hire the services of signed language interpreters during their rallies and interaction with sections of the society to ensure that their message reaches persons with hearing impairment.
