Ghana FA awards players after GPL Week One

The football governing body has honoured players who excelled in the opening day of the 2015-16 season with each receiving a pair of boot and a ball.

Ghana Football Association have awarded top performers after the opening day matches in the 2015-16 Ghana Premier League season which began last weekend.

Wafa silenced giants Asante Kotoko 2-0 in Sogakope and their fast rising star Charles Boateng was awarded with the first goal of the season, succeeding former Hearts of Oak striker Gilbert Fiamenyo who scored first last term against Wafa. The youngster's 40th minute strike set the tone for the Academy boys to beat highly-tipped Kotoko, with Samuel Tetteh fetching the second goal in the second half of the game.

Wa All Stars striker Maxwell Baako was also rewarded after netting twice when the Northern Blues hammered Sekondi Hasaacas 3-1 last weekend, becoming the first player to achieve that feat this season scoring. Baako also succeeds Hasacaas' Samuel Afful whose brace last season condemned Liberty to a 3-1 defeat.

Meanwhile, Berekum Chelsea skipper Sadick Adams was also awarded following his improvised mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to his teammate Asiwome Fumador who had gone unconscious clashing with Techiman City FC defender Iddrisu Mohammed. Adams became a hero since there was no ambulance present at the facility and no qualified personnel to save the lifeless teammate.

Fumardo was rushed to the hospital in a waiting police jeep and was eventually saved after being placed under oxygen.

Match day Two of the GPL will continue in Friday as Edubiase United host Ebusua Dwarfs at the Len Clay Stadium before Hasaacas and Techiman City FC lock horns on Saturday at the Essipong Stadium. The remaining six fixtures will be honoured on Sunday with the exception of Kotoko vs Ashantigold, which has been postponed to March 9 due to the former's involvement in the Caf Champions League.
