I Have Not Embezzled Party Funds - Azong

The People’s National Convention (PNC) Member of Parliament for Builsa South, Alhassan Azong has debunked allegations that he has embezzled some party funds.

A story carried by the New Crusading GUIDE, on February 18, 2016 with the headline: ‘NC DUMPS AZONG….Accuses him of embezzling Party Funds,’ alleged that the MP had mobilised about $350,000 in the name of PNC but failed to give the money to the party.

However, in a rejoinder, lawyers for the Hon Azong; Zoe, Akyea & Co stated that their client had not embezzled any party funds and that he had not done any of the things he was being accused of in the said story.

The MP’s lawyers stated that their client was not in position to embezzle any party funds since he was not an executive of the party.

“You would agree with us that this particular case has the propensity of creating a lot of disaffection for the Honourable Member and thus affect his political fortunes in the upcoming general elections. Indeed your story has already gotten attention of radio and the social media with extensive discussions on same,” the rejoinder pointed out.

It added that as a result of the publication, the MP has been exposed to hatred and ridicule by several people who know him.

“Indeed, our client since the publication had been receiving incessant calls from home and abroad by friends, constituents, colleague MPs and relatives trying to verify the truth about the story. The trauma and shock our client is undergoing has affected his work and public life,” the rejoinder reiterated.

In the light of the aforementioned comments, the New Crusading GUIDE wishes to unreservedly retract the story and apologise to Hon. Azong for any hatred, ridicule and inconvenience the publication might have exposed him to.
