Ghanas Economic Growth Has Always Been Poor Under NDC Since 1992

Acting General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu has asserted that Ghana’s economic growth has always been poor since the regime of former President Rawlings, the late President Mills and under President Mahama.

According to him, the economic growth of the country was poor till 2001 that President John Agyekum Kufuor took over the administration and sustained it to 2008.

He stressed that the economy under President Kufuor’s administration grew to 8.3 percent at the time he left but it dropped to 4.1 percent as soon as the NDC under the late President Mills; thus the economy jumped up to 5.2 percent the following year under Kufuor successor.

Speaking on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show, John Boadu highlighted that with the discovery of oil in commercial quantity by his NPP government in 2007 and in 2008, the economy grew by 14 percent in 2010 under the NDC government but dropped again the following year to 4.1 percent.

The economic growth analysis by John Boadu was due to the assertion by the General Secretary of the ruling NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah that it was only under his party that Ghana has seen the highest economic growth.

John Boadu who is also the National Organizer of the NPP wondered how Asiedu Nketiah could say the economy went high under the NDC government; reiterating that the NDC Chief Scribe does not know the basis of economic growth.

Touching on Agric and Industry as the pillars of the country’s economy, John Boadu hinted these sectors have performed poorly under President John Mahama as Agric for a long period of time grew by 0 percent; thus there is a massive decline in Agric production in the country.

He added that the Industry sector this year went negative percent, wondering how employment can be created in this country.
