Emulate Contributions Made By Countrys Forefathers Akwei Thompson

The Ga South Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Jerry Akwei Thompson, has urged Ghanaians, especially the youth, to emulate the contributions made by the country’s forefathers in order to move the country forward.

At the 59th independence celebration held at the Gbawe Cluster of schools in the Ga South Municipality, Mr Thompson said Ghanaians ought to use the anniversary to imbibe the sense of discipline, commitment, hard work, selflessness, as well as national pride, to enable them, particularly the youth, to contribute to transforming the nation.

Mr Thompson spoke on the theme: “Investing in the Youth for Ghana’s Transformation” and reminded the youth in the country that their forefathers were disciplined, which enabled them to achieve a lot.

The MCE bemoaned youth indiscipline, which is creeping into all facets of life in the country, and observed that many of them were involved in all sorts of unproductive activities at the expense of their education.

He said the social vices the youth engaged in included sexual immorality and armed robbery.

He said surveys conducted in the Greater Accra Region revealed that more than 10,000 teenage girls got pregnant every year in the region.

The municipal chief executive said the phenomenon was quite disturbing and urged parents and teachers to guide innocent girls against that menace.

Infrastructure

The Ga South Municipal Chief Executive said the Ga South Municipality had invested about GH¢768,270.85  in the provision of educational infrastructure.

He said the investment in school infrastructure led to the construction of school blocks and the construction of teachers quarters to provide accommodation for teachers in remote areas.

Mr Thompson stated that despite the Ga South Municipal Assembly’s intervention, the shift system and schools under trees still remained a canker in the municipality and the assembly was making all efforts to eliminate some of them, if not eradicate them completely.

He said the assembly was also working hard to provide every school in the municipality with furniture to prevent the situation where some schools held classes with few desks and tables.
