It's A Big Worry And Blow For Nii Noi To Go Independent - NPP Vice Chair

Vice Chairman of the NPP in the Klottey Korley Constituency,  Alhaji Aliu Kabe has described Nii Noi Nortey’s decision to leave the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to go independent as a big worry, a blow and a concern to the Klottey Korle constituency and the party at large.

According to him, personally talking with Nii Noi Nortey after his loss to Phillip Addison showed signs that he would at-all-cost contest as an independent candidate, which would be a great blow on the side of the party’s parliamentary victory for the constituency in question.

He ardently noted that “My stir to calm Nii Noi down yielded to nothing so I left him to take his own decision that he believes is the best to suit him.”

“As a party officer of the constituency, I am worried on how divided the party is because I suppose we cannot win the coming polls on this ticket,” he said.

Speaking on the Okay FM morning show 'Ade Akye Abia', he asserted “I know Nii Noi feels he has not been fairly treated by members of the party but all I keep telling him is to work in the interest of the party and nothing else, until I saw his posters all over the constituency as an independent candidate.”

“For me my problem with the current parliamentary re-run in the area was why voting started long before 8am which was the fixed and agreed time to commence voting as far as that election was concerned,” he added.

He insisted that, he has done his part as the party officer in the consistency and as such expects the executives of the party to do same with the target to calm Nii Noi Nortey down.

He conceded that Nii Noi’s decision could affect the electoral fortunes of the party in the constituency.

“Nii Noi is a grassroot person so we need him, but we are also working on the ground to recapture the Klottey Korley seat from the NDC,” he added.

The vice chairman noted that though it is a personal decision, the party will make frantic efforts to bring him back to the party.

Alhaji Kabe also called on the national leadership to call both parties and resolve the issue for a united front ahead of the crucial elections.
