Amenfi East NDC Rejects The Nomination Of Nicholas Amankwa

On behalf of the entire membership of the NDC party in Amenfi East Constituency,  we register our outmost disappointment and dissatisfaction on the nomination of Nicholas Amankwaa as DCE as stated in a press release signed by minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Hon. Alhaji Collins Dauda (MP) on 4th March 2016.

This announcement came to us with much surprise because there was no consultation or whatsoever and we the executives know that, Our President John Dramani Mahama should have consulted and exhausted all party organs and structures at the constituency level before arriving at such decision.

We are confident the President has no knowledge of the repercussions of this nomination unless it is to serve the sole interest of Hon Akwasi Opong Fosu (MP) who at the regional level threatened to resign if his PRO Nicholas Amankwaa is not nominated rather than unifying the ranks and file of the party in Amenfi East.

This singular action if not reversed would jeopardize our party's chances in the November elections.

It must also be placed on records that a press release purported to have come from our party, thanking the President for nominating Nicholas Amankwaa is a false publication and should be disregarded completely. It is a ploy by Nicholas Amankwaa and his surrogates to deceive the general public and cannot be the official party's position.

We are vehemently Opposing this Nomination due to the following reasons;

QUALIFICATION

Among all the ten (10) names that the party submitted, based on their  academic records and CVs  of each contestant, bringing to bare their levels of exposure and experience, managerial and administrative skills, call to duty and service to party and country, was a very experienced Bank Manager, Master’s degree in Public Administration, and other first degree holders. Nicholas Amankwaa who unfortunately has been named holds an HND certificate and is the least qualified & matured among them to occupy such sensitive position at this critical time.

COMMITMENT

These are members who have shown total commitment, dedication and selfless contributions to the party even when we were in opposition in 2001. Nicholas Amankwaa started party activism only in 2012 and within this few years has created more enemies for himself both within and outside the party.

Infact his comments and postures as a mere PRO to Hon Akwasi Opong Fosu (MP) has driven away core members of our party in the constituency.

ARROGANT & DISRESPECTFUL TO PARTY EXECUTIVES

Nicholas Amankwaa on an internal party issue has always assaulted any member or executive who disagreed with him or the MP, verbally on any platform given either as a panel member on local radio stations or youth meetings. He described we the constituency executives as illiterates and imbeciles who know nothing about politics and that we were elected by uninformed delegates.

Anytime we tried to draw the attention of  Our MP Hon Akwasi Opong Fosu to internal party issues and as a spokesperson he took us to the gutters. Some words he used on myself as constituency Chairman were unprintable and unpalatable but as a leader some of these challenges will definitely come.

The show of arrogance, opulence, disrespect and intolerance will not help the cause of our party & district at large if given the mandate to be our DCE.

How can such DCE work with illiterate executives who knows nothing about politics.? Are we going to win with a divided team and apathy on our supporters? No way!

LOCKED UP PARTY OFFICE AND DISRUPTED PARTY ACTIVITIES

Nicholas Amankwaa prior to the Parliamentary elections mobilized and led some youth group to lock up our constituency office at wasa Akropong and threatened to beat up the constituency secretary Mr Kwasi Afari Gyabeng who was fortunately not at the office at that time all because we wanted to create a fair level playing field for competition. Mr Asare was interviewed on this matter on Asempa fm's Political show "enko si sen" by KABA, the host. This link is an evidence to his own action - www.graphic.com.gh/news/politics/48862-amenfi-east-ndc-youth-lock-up-party-office-over-disagreement.html.

He also defaced and removed posters of Mr Alexander Baidoo a parliamentary candidate aspirant who wanted to contest Hon Oppong Fosu. It took the intervention of myself as Chairman and other executives to deal with this matter internally because of our party's interest & reputation.

Again, Nicholas Amankwaa led a group to disrupt and prevent the inauguration of John Mahama's Fan Club which caused serious financial loss to the party. Not only this, he also submitted false list of appointees to the Regional Coordinating Council without equal representation from the party and DCE.

As we speak now our party is sharply divided due to the actions and inactions of  Nicholas Amankwa supported by Hon. Akwasi Opong Fosu (MP). The calls and reports we are getting from our wards and branches is very disturbing. Our people are angry with his appointment and if not reversed will cost us defeat in November. The youth have threatened a massive demonstration if the president doesn't have a second look at his nomination.

We are by this note appealing to His Excellency the President,  John Dramani Mahama and the chief of staff to as a matter of urgency address the concerns of our teaming party members before the worse happens.

Nicholas is Not the party's choice. We call on and plead with all members, sympathizers and youth groups of NDC, Amenfi East to remain calm at this difficult moment.

Yours in service for God and county

........ Signed.....
