Debate Of Facts: Forum Set To Promote Mahama, Nana Addo Bout

The People’s Forum Ghana, a political interest group, has taken it upon itself to make reality out of President John Dramani Mahama’s call for a debate between him and 2016 NPP Flag bearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo.

Should it come off, the group believes the differences in economic speculations would seize and thus enhance the awareness of the citizenry to be better informed in their decision making, as well as eliminate the damning effect it could have on the economy, a press statement signed by Clement Amole, the Executive Secretary stated.

“It is common knowledge that speculators can make and unmake an economy and as such if these contentious issues are not settled, we are likely to find ourselves in a situation where Ghana will be slipping into such difficult channels”, it noted.

According to the group, they are obliged to take up the mantle to clear the doubts in the minds of Ghanaians and investors because it served no good if conflicting information are churned out by leaders who ought to know the detrimental effects speculation have on the  economy both locally and internationally.

The People's Forum-Ghana has initiated the process of designing the modalities and form the debate may take and would complete same after consulting the President, the NPP's Flagbearer and other stake holders to enable them organize a progressive debate for the benefit of the people.

The group is hopeful that a successful organization of the debate would go a long way in enhancing and entrenching Ghana’s democracy.

The People's Forum-Ghana in recent past has done some works to protect the sanctity of some State institutions such as the Bank of Ghana (BoG), and Statistical Service of Ghana (SSG) from the effect of the works of political speculators, who sought to cast doubts on the efforts of professionals only for the purpose of gaining political advantage.

“It must be noted that we are still committed to protecting the sanctity of our institutions from any form of false speculations and statements”, the statement added.

President Mahama on Monday threw an open challenge on TV3 to the NPP flagbearer, saying “I am willing to debate Nana Akufo Addo any day, … Indeed he has made a lot of contentious statements I wish to debate him on”. It’s a call many floating voters especially should be interested in”.

Nana Akufo-Addo in a Twitter post as a response to the President, said he was ready to debate the President any day, if he debating him would solve Ghana’s problem.
