Dont Insult Us With Gari Teacher Trainees Tell Govt

An aggrieved teacher group,  Coalition of Concerned Mentees (CCM) has condemned what they described as the government’s  “gari politics” meant to woo teachers, amidst the difficulties they’re currently facing.

According to them, government’s distribution of gari on selected campuses will not solve their current woes following the harsh decisions on issues pertaining to their feeding fees and the allowance which has been scrapped.

A leading member of the group, Charles Atomuwoe on Kasapa FM Thursday said government’s distribution of gari speaks to the disrespect it has for teachers, adding “this was totally unnecessary and an insult to teachers”.

When asked by the host whether this will not at least suffice the hunger they claim to be enduring as teachers, Atomuwoe said the indignity of enticing them with gari is a clear indication of the government’s insensitivity towards their plight.

“Does the government have respect for teachers at all. The act speaks in volumes how the standard of teachers have been reduced to the lowest ebb. I don’t believe government can go to other training institutions like the Nursing, Police and even the Doctors to share gari to them. Whether this was done at the appropriate time or not, what we say is this was uncalled for, and a sign of disrespect” he said.

The NDC Krachi East Constituency executives stormed the Dambai College of Education campus with abundance of ‘olonka’ bags of gari for the students to bid them to boycott attending the NPP running mate Dr. Bawumia’s programme billed to spread his message for teachers.

However, notwithstanding the ploy alleged to destruct Bawumia’s lecture, the trainee teachers after collecting the gari, made it to the to the grounds outside the school premises.

The school campus was not accessible to Bawumia and his team because a directive from the Education Ministry blocked the event from taking place on the campus.
