NDC, NPP Youth 'Play' For Peaceful Elections

Youth groups from some suburbs of Cape Coast made up of National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters, engaged in a special a football gala as part of a campaign to promote peace in Ghana ahead of the November 7 elections.

The "Sports for Peace and Development" campaign brought together eight youth groups from suburbs comprising Bakaano, London Bridge, Housing, Tantri , Great Avenue ,Zion , Lands and Paprata, at the Zion School Park.

It was organised by Master Peace Ghana, a wing of Master Peace Foundation, a Netherlands- registered International non- profit organisation under the theme "Sports for Peace and Development: Promoting non-violence and tolerance through sports".

Addressing spectators , Mr. Emmanuel Ankai-Taylor, President of the Master Peace Ghana, said the Master Peace foundation was committed to creating awareness on world peace through several peace builders in over 45 countries, on a grass-root level .

He said said the foundation was also harnessing the power of music, arts, media and dialogue to prevent new armed conflicts and ensure that the world was free of violence and wars.

Isaac Joe Gharbin, the Communication Manager of Master Peace Ghana, however bemoaned the failure of representatives of the various political parties to honour their invitation to deliver peace messages at the event, although they promised to be present.

He appealed to Ghanaians to uphold the tenets of democratic discourse to avoid any unnecessary tension before, during and after the 2016 elections.

Though the competition involved political party enthusiasts, none of them displayed party colours or paraphernalia and this was highly commended by event organisers and spectators .
