Richard Kwasi Siaw Akrofi aka Ex–Doe was one of the pioneers of hip life music in Ghana. He was part of a group called the Traditional Rulers before going solo.

He collaborated with Chicago to release “Daavi Mede Kuku” the most popular Ewe hip life song to date in 1996. In an interview with the musician on how well music paid in those days, he had this to say:

“Music now is business and a lifetime investment so if you do it well and invest into it, you will yield results. Previously, music did not pay well even though we made money from the sales of CDs, therefore most of the musicians either ran outside the country for greener pastures or depended on sugar mummies for their survival,” he said.

“I have been a victim. I have dated a sugar mummy before and I know how well they treat us. They helped us when we were cash trapped and helped us survive for some months and years before we got back on our feet,” Ex – Doe added.

“Currently, music pays very well and that is why most of the current guys are living a luxurious life and doing some great investment. There are several shows in the course of the year which pays huge amount of money to these artistes unlike our days”, he expressed. He further went on to acknowledge the contribution of social media which links artistes to the world and in the course they get shows outside the country.ex doe

Ex Doe who resurfaced onto the music scene after being out of the system for a while is out with an album which will be released unto the market later this year but he is currently promoting his single featuring Stonebwoy titled “Sika” which is doing very well in the market.

He said the album will feature most of the current guys and international acts which he says promises to be a surprise to Ghanaians and his fans at large. Even though he is an Akan, he is known more for his Ewe lyrics due to the song’s popularity. Some of his songs include Yebre, Daavi mede kuku, Gogo wo ho, Comfort, Good one there.
