Even If Prez Mahama Re-nominates You, I Will Force You Out- Chairman Wontumi Tells Yamoah Ponko

The Ashanti Regional Chairman for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has vowed to trounce Kweku Afrifa Yamoah Ponko dream’s of cementing a permanent place in office as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Ejisu Juaben municipality.

Yamoah Ponko has endured a difficult time in office as MCE and the latest decision by President Mahama to re-nominate him after assembly members in Ejisu Juaben passed a vote of no confidence on him, reopened old wounds in his own political party- the National Democratic Congress.

His re-nomination charged some angry supporters of the ruling NDC in the Ejisu-Juaben Constituency to  demonstrate and threaten to turn down pleas to be polling agents in the recent pilot voters registration conducted by the Electoral Commission.

He is now facing the wrath of Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman ‘Wontumi’ over claims that the flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo Addo brought curses upon himself when his party members hooted at President John Mahama at the funeral ceremony of Bantamahene, Baffour Asare Owusu Amankwatiah V.

‘Wontumi’ who has already begun his mission to oust Mr. Kweku Afrifa Yamoah Ponko  from office for making the above remarks, has visited several assembly members in the Ejisu Juaben municipality and warned them not to retain the re-nominated MCE in office.

When Peacefmonline.com contacted Chairman ‘Wontumi’ about the issue, he affirmed his plans and stated that “don’t forget, when the District Assembly Elections were held, candidates with NPP background won 964 electoral areas out of 1045 representing 92.2% in the Ashanti Region. That shows you how powerful we are in the region and Yamoah Ponko should never mess with our great leader Nana Akufo Addo”.

In July 8, 2015 the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Collins Dauda, asked the Regional Coordinating Council chaired by the then Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi, to take over the running of the Ejisu Juaben Municipal until a new MCE is appointed.

This was after Kweku Afrifa Yamoah Ponko, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ejisu Juaben municipality in the Ashanti Region was sacked. The decision was taken “based on Article 243 and 246 of the 1992 Constitution” according to a statement from the Presidency.

Forty-one assembly members voted against Mr. Ponko, who was a former MCE of the same area before being re-nominated late November 2015. He managed to poll 25 votes in his favour but was not enough for him to pull through.

Despite President Mahama’s decision to re-nominate Kweku Afrifa Yamoah Ponko as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Ejisu Juaben municipality, his faith solely relies on the assembly members who have the power to decide whether he would be voted for or not.
