The leadership of the main opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is holding an emergency meeting over some recent attacks on the party and its offices.
The meeting is to consider the circumstances leading to the raid of the pro-NPP think tank, Danquah Institute and the arrest of its officials, acting National Chairman, Freddie Blay has disclosed to Joy News.
He said the meeting will also explore the option of collaborating with the Ghana Police Service on how to deal with the lawless acts against the party
On March 24, a police man in uniform and six others in mufti raided the Cantonment office of the Danquah Institute.
A security man on duty disclosed to Joy News that some men in a Pajero vehicle approached the gate demanding to see one “Hajia”. “I told them there is no Hajia here and that all the superiors had closed. And they said they wanted to enter but I refused to open the gate. One jumped the wall and opened the gate for the others,” he said.
According to him, the men forced the door open and went ahead to raid the offices of the institute.
This is happening some few days following the arrest of the three South African ex-cops by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) on the allegation of giving some 15 members of the NPP security training and the arrest of Captain Koda, the head of security for the party's flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo.
Mr Blay said Individual members of the NPP are disturbed and “We are not happy about the development”.
“We are definitely under siege by NDC backed by the national security apparatus who are literally harassing our membership and officers for no good reason”, he said.
According to him, the incident is a call for concern and that Ghanaians as well as members of the NPP should be informed about what is happening.
He also berated behavior of national security operatives saying: “We are definitely at a lost as to why the security have decided to be extremely militant and harassing the main opposition party and its officers in the country”.
He intimated the current behavior of the leadership of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is “definitely not good for democracy in the country”.
Mr Blay called on Ghanaians to call the government to order so that the recent happenings in the party would be brought to an end.
