Ghanaians Worship Mediocrity In The Music Industry- Okyeame Kwame

Finest Ghanaian rapper, Okyeame Kwame has stated categorically that Ghanaians worship mediocrity in the music industry hence, making most of our music produced home not up to international standard.

According to the Rap Dacta who was in a discussion with students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism(GIJ)\ SeanCitygh last weekend said most of the music produced locally are just noise therefore making most of our songs not crossing the borders of Ghana.

'OK', as he is passionately called, praised some gallant Ghanaian musicians who through their hard work and efforts been able to penetrate into the world music market with examples like Ebo Taylor, Osibisa and Rocky Dawuni.

"There is more hope for Ghanaian music to have their way into the world market. But I think that the current standard of most of the music produced here are of little lower than that of the world average standard. Because we make a lot of noise and we worship mediocrity. Until we are able to rise above that mediocrity we will be where we are. Some few individuals like Ebo Taylor, Osibisa and Rocky Dawuni are able to penetrate into the world market because when you listen to the sound that they are able to produce, you can see that it is like local music produced internationally. So I think that as industry, we must rise up above the current standard."

Okyeame Kwame is one of the greatest musicians Ghana has ever had. He has distinguished himself in the rap category through his creativity and mastery over the local language.

He has through that won so many awards including the ultimate award, Artiste of the Year in the early 2000s in the Ghana Music Awards.
