Govt Spends Close To $1m Per Black Stars Match

Sports Minister, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye has disclosed that government spends close to about  $1 million on the Black Stars for just a match.

He said in an interview with host Dan Kwaku Yeboah on UTV’s ‘Agodie’ sports programme.

In justifying the said amount, he said players of the mens' senior national football team always get business class tickets from their variuos clubs to match camping places, accommodation, bonuses, catering, per diems allowances among others, including monies being spent on the technical team as well.

According to the Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo constituency government spends about $977,000 close to a million dollars of which gate proceeds amount to nothing, until he decided to put another measure to check this during the Ghana and Mozambique first leg qualifier game at Accra Sports Stadium.

He lamented as to why some people always want to use the Black Stars for their own personal well being and milk the nation so much.

“So long as I am there as the Sports Minister I won’t allow such an act to continue and I will do anything within my power to stop the bad attitude of some people."
