$40,000 at 40. Okyeame Kwame To Rescue Physically Challenged Atheletes

Hiplife artiste and rapper Okyeame Kwame hardly runs short of creative ideas and often leaves his followers guessing his next move, be it the release of a hit song or one of his many philanthropic works.

But expect no hit song, wild parties or a new music video when the award-winning artiste celebrates his 40th birthday, even though he plans to mark it in a unique manner that makes a difference in the lives of the less-privileged.

On April 17, Okyeame Kwame plans to mark his significant milestone with Ghana’s Paralympic team in mind, as he seeks to raise $40,000 to enable the physically-challenged athletes participate in the qualifiers at the Dessert Challenge in the United States.

Following the government’s failure to fund the Paralympic team’s participation in the competition beginning May 1, the Woso hitmaker took up the challenge to undertake fund-raising activities in partnership with Dan Devan Group of Companies. He told Showbiz that he was inspired by the resilience of the physically- challenged athletes who deserve as much support as able-bodied sports personalities.

“It is the dream of these athletes who have worked to get to the qualifiers stage to make it to this year’s Paralympic games and the little I can do is to help them achieve that by raising the funds,” he said.

The Rap Doctor will take charge of the console on Sunday, April 17 when he hosts a crowd-funding show on Hitz FM, followed by a concert, Music on Wheels on Friday April 22 at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill in Accra. “We have a number of committed ladies ready to hit the streets to raise money to finance this laudable project.

“I think this is a good opportunity for our corporate entities to give back to society,” he stated.

Okyeame Kwame told Showbiz that when the amount is raised, the team will be presented with the funds on April 23 before they leave on April 28 for the USA for the qualifiers which starts on May 1. In a chat with Showbiz, a member of the Paralympic team and the PRO of Dan Devan Group of Companies, Maclean Dzidzienu, expressed his appreciation to Okyeame Kwame for the support.

He said the funds would help to finance the team’s airfares, hotel bills, medical bills and some kits for training as well.

“My colleagues and I are more than grateful for this support and the confidence reposed in us. As we have done in previous years, we will come back with more gold medals when the finals of the Paralympic Games are held later in the year in Rio, Brazil. However, we will need more support to achieve this, “he added.
