Avram Grant Considers Ghana Exit After AFCON 2017

Ghana coach Avram Grant would consider a return to club football when his current deal with the Black Stars ends after the 2017 Nations Cup, he has told Israeli radio.

The former Chelsea boss claims he misses the day-to-day intensity of managing at club level and has hinted he may take up the option of returning to England if there is an option.

"The competitiveness and creativity in training every day of the week is different. There is no doubt that I miss it," he told Israeli radio station 102FM.

"My contract ends after the African Cup of Nations Championships in Gabon early next year. Next year, at the end of my contract, it is possible I will coach a team in England."

Grant came to international prominence in 2007 when he took over from Jose Mourinho as Chelsea boss before taking them to within a penalty kick of the champions league title. But he has not coached in England since he was supervised West Ham’s relegation five years ago.

Since then he has worked in Serbia with Partizan Belgrade and in Thailand before signing up as Ghana boss in late 2014.

He guided the Black Stars to the Nations Cup final in 2015; their second in five years and their fifth consecutive semi final but claims that he deserves credit for ‘rebuilding’ the national team off the back of a poor world cup.

"No problems with Ghana. Professional status is good and there is nothing wrong with the Association. I got a team in a bad state and rebuilt it,” Grant said. “We win most of the time, except the draw in the last game because we were missing a lot of key players.”

Grant has stuck to majority of the players that Ghana took to the world cup and many of those who played central roles in Ghana’s superb Nations Cup run in recent years. He has 11 wins in competitive games and three losses in the process which included the Nations Cup final against Ivory Coast.

During that period, Ghana has also drawn games against the likes of Canada and Comoros.
