Accident Victim Cries For HelpSports Ministry, NSA To Meet

Mr. Richard Tetteh, a welder at Osu in the Greater Accra Region has been crying for help from the National Sports Authority and the Sport Ministry since he encountered an accident when working for the NSA at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Richard Tetteh was contracted with some other welders by the Sports Authority 15th December, 2014 to weld a broken metal door in the stadium to shape the condition of the stadium for farmers’ day activity.  In the process of working he had to carry one of the glasses separating the spectators from the players. Unfortunately, the glass fell on him and he was rushed to 37 Military hospital in a stadium ambulance.

Speaking to Mr. Richard Tetteh in an interview on his sick bed in Somanya in the Eastern Region, he said since the accident happened he has not felt better, the only place he is carried to everyday is the Atua hospital at the expense of his family adding that “Since I was discharged from 37 hospital to Somanya in December 2014, I have become a burden on my family. I have two children and a wife, my things have been thrown out from my rented house in Osu. The land Rented for working has been collected from me”.

Mr. Richard Tetteh who has not been able to be on his feet since December 2014, is pleading with the Sports Authority and the Sports Minister to come to his aid.

But the Stadium Manager, Mr. Eric Nkansah disclosed that the Authority had no help to offer him.

He said the National Sports Authority has no plans of supporting him in any capacity, “We have paid some of his hospital bills and that is enough”.

The National Sports Authority wrote a letter to him dated 18th March 2015 to sign without even reading the content. The letter signed by Musah Abdulai, Deputy Director Admin (NSA) reveals that “In the event that you accept this cash offer and undertaking under no circumstance should you instigate any legal action or claim of compensation against the Authority in future. Any such claim or action shall be null and void.

Meanwhile, a source at the Ministry has hinted that it would meet with the NSA to deliberate on his issue “just based on humanitarian grounds”
