Im Not Swollen Headed - Coach

Coach of Division One side, Elmina Sharks, has admitted that he is not carried away by his team’s 5-0 annihilation against Tarkwa United at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina yesterday in the Zone Two of the GN Bank Division One League.

A hat-trick from Ben Tweneboah and a goal each from man of the match, Charles McCarthy, and Robert Azalatey, were enough to cap another week of an outstanding performance from the Sharks to topple the Tarkwa boys.

Elmina Sharks have enjoyed 100% start in Zone Two of the Division One League after recording an impressive six wins and two draws to restore their lead at the top of the table with 20 points.

The team also put up a sterling performance to kick out Premier League side, Ebusua Dwarfs, of the MTN FA Cup competition at the Nduom Sports Stadium in Elmina to qualify to Round of 16 of the competition.

Speaking in an interview with Today, the 42-year-old coach, who has rich experience in the second-tier league, after masterminding the promotion of Berekum Chelsea and Sekondi Hasaacas into the premier league in 2007 and 2013 respectively, said the recent successes being chalked by the team is as result of hard work and seriousness they put into their training routines.

“We owe nothing to our achievements on and off the field but only to hard work and discipline,” he affirmed.

Coach Amissah added that another major contributing factor to Elmina Sharks’ recent triumphs was the enormous support the President of Group Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, was giving to the club.

He said but for Dr. Nduom’s support, the team will be swimming in a severe financial quagmire being experienced by other Division One clubs.

“He’s a professional. He’s really changed the club. We now have our stadium, players and backroom staff wages, winning bonuses are paid on time and all niceties needed for a football team to thrive has been provided…he’s really a blessing”
