My Husband Did Not Design EC New Logo EC Boss

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei has denied suggestions that her husband designed the commission’s controversial new logo.

According to her, she’s not the only one married to a graphic artist, adding, the fact that the EC did not open up invitation for people to send in logos, does not mean her husband had a hand in putting together the logo.

News of a new logo for the EC was greeted with huge backlash by a large section of Ghanaians who questioned the need for the change in logo.

Others were of the view that the new logo is an occultic symbol which has a long historical pagan ties.

However speaking at the EC’s launch of its Five-Year Development Plan in Accra Tuesday, Mrs Osei stated that a lot of work went into settling on the new logo.

“We did not open up invitation for people to send logos in. as we explain the logo has to explain where we’re going to as a brand and an institution. So it’s not just about putting colours together, it had to represent something. We were also benchmarking internationally, we did look at logos of international Electoral Commissions. A logo is not just an artistic competition; it has to stand for something. We went through a process in terms of developing the brand and what we wanted the brand to stand for. We engaged internally before settling on it”

Responding to claims that the EC had plagiarized the logo of a Turkish educational institute, Mrs Osei challenged that institution to sue her outfit if it is minded.

“They certainly have rights under the law, we don’t feel we’ve plagiarized them, and internationally there are many such logos. I’ve seen that logo; I don’t think it looks like ours. We like it, we are comfortable as a commission as it represents the values, the brand and the image we want to portray.”
