I Love Being Tagged A Local Champion Shatta Wale

Dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale appears to be unperturbed about some people referring to him as a ‘local champion’.

According to the ‘Chop Kiss’ hit-maker, the tag, aimed at mocking him for playing shows only in Ghana is one ‘title’ he loves.

Speaking on Pluzz FM’s AM Pluzz on Tuesday, Shatta Wale said he prefers making money from shows he plays in Ghana than to travel abroad for shows he will be paid less.

“I love it. I’m the only guy who owns four cars. I’m the local champion who is building two houses,” he said when asked if he is affected by the tag.

Shatta Wale asserted that Ghanaian artistes are not paid well when they perform abroad, adding that he will not fancy being seen as an international act when it fetches him no money.

“Promoters shouldn’t see us as kids. If I can get paid for a hundred thousand and over in Ghana and you call me for a show in America and want to pay me $3,000, then keep it… All those artistes you see travelling here and there are not making anything. They just go for the fame of it. That’s why I haven’t travelled so if anybody calls me a local champion, I love it. The local champion is richer than the international champion,” he noted with laughter.
