Okudzeto Ablakwass Patriotism Questioned

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia (MP) in Kumasi, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has challenged the National Service Secretariat to come clean about whether Deputy Minister of Information, Mr. Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa performed his National Service in line with the National Service Acts that established the Secretariat. He said it was only recently that the University of Ghana released the Deputy Ministers first degree certificate to him after he completed some three years ago and wondered if he performed the mandatory national service while he waited for his certificate. Speaking on a Kumasi-based radio station, Angel FM Dr. Prempeh (a.k.a. Napo) said if indeed Mr. Ablakwah did not perform his national service then he would not be fit to be a Deputy Minister of Ghana since his behaviour could best described as unpatriotic. He said for a person to rise to a ministerial position, that individual should prove to one and all that one was very patriotic and not just an activist of a political party. All attempts to get Dr. Prempeh to respond to the query as to why he did not raise the issue when Mr. Ablakwah appeared before the Appointment Committee for which the Mp was a ranking member, proved futile as at the time of filing this report.
