Abraham Atta Applauds Kennedy Agyepong...

In appreciation for the major contribution he made to his current status in life, celebrated child actor, Abraham Atta has paid a visit to Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Ohene Agyepong.

Abraham Atta, shot to fame after emerging Best Actor at the Film Independent Spirit Awards and his management went to the Assin Dompem home of the businessman cum politician to thank him for funding his education.

The MP told Adomonline.com in an interview that he was shocked when he received a call from the management team of the internationally celebrated child actor seeking to pay a visit to him to say thank you.

“Abraham Atta told me he would be in my house by 1:00 pm and by 1:30pm, he arrived with his management … his reason was to come and say Thank You to me for funding his education when he was young…,” Ken said.

According to the Legislator who is known for his philanthropist works, he spotted Abraham Atta and four other boys at the tender age of six at the toll gate of the Ashaiman Lorry station in Accra engaging in petty trading. Abraham Atta, he added was the youngest among the boys.

After seeing them on many occasions at the same venue, Ken Agyepong said he approached them and asked them why they were not in school.

The story told by the boys, who were between the ages of six and seven, reminded him of how he used to hawk PK Chewing gum on the streets of Accra as a young boy.

“The boys told me that there was no one to pay their fees hence their resort to selling on the streets…I then asked them if they would want to go to school and they responded that indeed, they would want to go to school…,” Ken added.

Armed with this affirmative response from the kids, Ken said he asked them to go and tell their parents that he would want to fund their education.

“With their parents agreeing to my proposal, I gave them money to start school and that is how come they started school…this was just at the elementary level…,” Ken Agyepong added.

As part of the plan to motivate  the ‘Ashaiman boys’ – as he referred to them – and let them see they can also succeed and be like or more than him, Ken Agyepong said he always set a table for them during parties he organized in his house.

The businessman said he always asked of the boys anytime he got to the Ashaiman tollgate just to know if they indeed were attending school.

Speaking about the visit, the MP disclosed that a grateful Abraham Atta told him he was there to thank him for putting him through school.

“The young boy told me it was in his school that the movie directors identified him and decided to use him for their movie and that he was very grateful because he wouldn’t have been discovered if he was still on the streets…,” Ken added.

The young Ghanaian actor, immediately became the toast of Ghanaians and met many high profile persons in the country including Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur after presenting an award at the Oscars.

All this while, Ken said he never noticed Abraham Atta was the person being celebrated until his wife drew his attention one day that ‘my boy was the one being celebrated in Ghana now’.

Ken said he saw his movie being screened on American Television when he went to America.

“However, I decided to keep mute over this because you know how dirty politics is in this country. Because of politics, someone would immediately misquote me and misrepresent me if I had come out so I decided to let go and make it a secret until the boy saw the need to come to me and show appreciation for the little good I did to him…,” he said.

Enthused by the show of appreciation by the actor, Akompreko, as Ken is popularly known, said he advised the young lad to always learn to be grateful to persons who do good to him since that would take him far in life.

“I was shocked by the show of appreciation from him and advised him to always do same to others since in life the people you meet on your way up are the same people you will meet on your way down…,” Ken counseled.

Ken Agyepong hinted that Abraham Atta was just one of several persons he has helped and continues to help.

“His case is not a big deal compared to persons I am sponsoring even at the University level, it is just at the elementary level…I don’t demand that I should be offered anything in return, all I want is that they also help others when they are through…,” Ken added.
