Maverick boxer Bukom Banku has expressed surprise at the public condemnation which greeted his decision to bleach his skin and disclosed that it was his wife, Stella Tetteh, who advised him to bleach.
Banku said he married Stella about five years ago and she recently suggested to him to start bleaching his skin.
The professional boxer said both he and the wife are now into bleaching and called on the public to stop talking about them.
Banku was speaking to Francis Abban on Joy TV in an interview that has gone viral on several social sites.
The professional Ghanaian boxer said he was in love with his new ‘bleached’ look and was tired of keeping his black skin.
The boxer said he was not bothered about the potential dangers of skin bleaching and that he is an adult who should be allowed to live his life the way that pleases him.
Banku recently confirmed reports that he had started bleaching his skin and revealed he was bleaching for Ghana’s president, John Mahama, to make him Ghana’s ambassador to Germany after he wins the 2016 general elections.
“I am bleaching my skin because when John Mahama wins 2016 elections, he will make me Ghana Ambassador to Germany. I am bleach (sic) myself for German people to know that German people and Bukom Banku are one,” he told Radio Gold about a fortnight ago.
He continued: “Bleaching can’t affect my skin because I have a very good skin. Again, rashes can’t affect me because I am using cleaning Claire and I am taking medicine as well. So if you see me now, you will observe that I am from Germany. I want Ghanaians to know that I am a German now. If I don’t bleach they won’t give me that position…and if you see me now I look fresh because of President John Mahama,” he added.
