I Love To Produce - Christabel

The first movie actress Christabel Adomako Kye featured on was God Loves Prostitutes by Abdul Salam Mumuni in 2004. Due to her lack of confidence then, the affable young lady preferred to stay behind the scenes.

“Although Abdul Salam told me I did so well in the movie, I preferred to stay behind the scenes and produce. Again, I am the type who loves to write be it TV series, movies or books” she told Showbiz on Thursday.

Movies produced by Christabel Kyei who has worked with actors such as Roselyn Ngissah, John Dumelo, Kafui Danku,  Eddie Watson, Paulina Oduro and Pascal Amanfo include Hotel Babylon, Love and Crime and Letters To My Mother. She has also featured in some popular TV series including Chorkor Trotro on TV3, Taxi Driver on GTV and Trailer TV on GHOne Television.

According to Christabel, although it is normally the actors who take the shine, she prefers to hide behind the cameras and do all the “magic that makes a movie great”.

Explaining how she started producing, Christabel who had her Degree in Human Resource Management at the London School of Commence said she was introduced by a friend to a movie producer who admired her work.

As a producer, the mother of four said producing enables her to learn from other producers and improve upon what she already knows.

“ Apart from making sure all the characters are paid well, getting interviews for the movie and finally making sure everything is in order for the movie to come out well, I take the opportunity to learn from other professional  producers to improve myself,” she said.

On what she doesn’t like about the movie industry, Christabel, who comes from Kwahu Abetifi in the Eastern Region said there is a lot of backbiting, selfishness and hypocrisy which is hindering the growth of the movie industry.
