There Is Too Much Rot At Ghana Actors' Guild - Mikki Osei Berko

A discussion on issues affecting the Ghana Actors Guild on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review on Saturday did not end without Mikki Osei Berko (Master Richard) and Abeiku Sagoe disagreeing on virtually every point raised by each other.

Mikki Osei Berko, making his submission, said the Guild is in constitutional crisis because it has three different constitutions. But Abeiku Sagoe, who has declared his intention to contest for the presidency, refuted the claim saying the constitution has undergone amendments and so the Guild works with only one constitution.

While Mikki Osei Berko stated that he is a member of the guild which has seen “too much rot” and called for sanity, Mr Sagoe stated that Mikki is not a paid member of the Guild and cannot fight it from outside. He advised that Micky register as a member to help build the guild.

“You are not a member of the guild. It is true. Are you a member? Do you have your membership card? When I realised I was coming on the show with you, I asked if you are registered. I understand last two months, you were at the guild’s office making enquiries on registration, you left and up to now, you have not gone back,” Abeiku Sagoe said.

In response, Mikki Osei Berko mentioned that the guild was not serving its purpose, adding that it was not a pension grant for some people who would want to do everything possible to lead the guild.

“I respect you so much. Most of the things you are saying are not true. Listen, Actors Guild is not a pension grant for some of you…”

The Ghana Actors Guild seems to be in crisis as it currently has no President, Vice President and Welfare Officer. Its President and Welfare Officer, Rev Eddie Coffie and Solomon Sampah respectively, have passed on. Vice President Vivian Achor is said to have travelled outside the country for more than a year without informing the guild. Her position has therefore been declared vacant by the guild.

The Guild has planned to hold elections after the burial of their past executives.
