Why Allotey Jacobs False Arrest Report Went Viral . . . - Aide Explains

Aide to the chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Caentral Region, Bernard Allotey Jacobs, Nurudeen Kobina Essah has concluded that the false arrest report is not only to dent Allotey’s image but to disrupt the commissioning of the Komenda Sugar Factory by President John Mahama.

Rumours had been rife on Ghanaian social media sites, particularly Facebook, that the charismatic politician had been busted on the morning of Sunday May 29 at Heathrow Airport in the United Kingdom by officials of the National Crime Agency for possession of narcotics.

The grapevine had it that Mr Allotey Jacobs had concealed cocaine with a street value of €500,000 in his luggage on a British Airways flight BA078 from Accra to London as it is believed the grapevine came from Hopson Adorye, a communication team member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Without denying the rumour, Hopson Adorye on Okay FM’s 'Ade Akye Abia' Morning Show admitted he posted on his Facebook wall that Allotey Jacobs was escorted from Heathrow Airport by security officials for carrying such huge sums of monies on him.

According to him, he never said the arrest of Allotey Jacobs was partly due cocaine but maintained his source of information is reliable on the arrest of the NDC Central Regional Chairman; asserting that he was freed due to his diplomat passport.

But Mr Essah on the same platform fumed that Hopeson Addorye appeared to have no sense of shame for perpetuating such falsehoods and vowed that the NDC in Central Region will deal with him (Hopeson) since he is hell-bent on destroying the image of his [Essah’s] boss.

Hopson Adorye has made his mind to tarnish the 39 years of solid image built by Allotey Jacobs; just because President Mahama will be commissioning Komenda Sugar Factory today. So, because of that he wants to destroy everything about NDC, everything about Allotey Jacobs. Is that what our politics is getting to?”, he quizzed.

He however urged the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to disassociate itself from the false report by Hopson Adorye as this will affect the image of the opposition NPP if it keeps silent over this denigrating act by its member.
