The running mate of the New Patriotic Party Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has returned to the Volta Region barely a month after his boss’ five day tour of the region.
The party appears poised in 2016 to make inroads in a region where its fortunes have been tragically low in past elections.
Fully aware of the party’s weakness in the region, Dr Bawumia charged residents of Dzito, Kpedze to change their voting pattern and enjoy the many promises the NPP will implement if it wins the November elections.
“If you eat one soup for so long, you do not know how sweet another person’s soup is,” he rallied, charging the residents to taste the NPP soup.
Dr Bawumia expressed shock that most of the communities he visited had no telephone connection and wondered how any serious development project can take place without communication.
“After eight years of NDC, telephone network is not working, water project is still a problem,” he said, and admonished the residents to give the NPP a chance.. He said an NPP government will grow the economy and provide jobs for the people. He also promised to reinvigorate the National Health Insurance Scheme which he said was collapsing and reintroduce the teacher trainee allowance which has been withdrawn by the governing NDC.
Joy News’ Volta Region correspondent Fred Kwame Asare said the message by the NPP running mate was well received by the residents.
He said unlike previously where only few people converged at NPP gatherings in the Volta Region, the story appeared to be different this time around.
Kwame Asare said a number of enthusiastic supporters mobbed the NPP running mate and were equally excited with the message he gave them.
Some of the supporters told the reporter they are tired of being used by the NDC in elections and dumped after the ballots until the next election comes.
Some of the supporters who are students welcomed the promise to reintroduce the teacher trainee allowance.
