NDC Youth Deny Transformation

FORMER Tanso Electoral Area chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Tarkwa Nsuaem, Rev. Leo Mensah says President John Dramani Mahama has succeeded in transforming Ghana, but not young people in his party.

According him, dozens of NDC youth are yet to experience the qualitative change brought about by the Mahama-led government, indicating that many of the governing party youth remain frustrated and destitute, lacking the opportunity to develop and progress in life.

Addressing members of Action Youth for Mahama (AYM), an offshoot youth wing of the NDC, in Kumasi at the weekend, Rev. Mensah stated that greedy appointees of the government had concealed available opportunities created by the economy for their selfish interest.

The former NDC chairman told DAILY GUIDE in an interview that many young professionals in the ruling party were disappointed that they were working in an environment that offers little support to them after things have gone drastically right.

“As things improve in the country, the ability of young people to develop and progress in life is affected by the infrastructural transformation,” he noted and added that this was not the case of many of the party’s foot soldiers.

In his view, the interest of the NDC youth was better served under former President Rawlings’ regime.

Mustapha Iddrisu, a former Assemblyman and NDC youth activist, on his part, accused executives of the Ashanti Regional NDC for allegedly doing little to propagate the goods works of President Mahama.

He said it was on the basis of this that the AYM was formed to create the needed awareness and project the image of the President ahead of the November poll.

“People’s lives have been improved but the story is not being told,” he asserted, and added that the Action Youth for Mahama was going to adopt an interactive campaign strategy for the electioneering campaign.

He pledged the AYM’s commitment to deliver 1.5 million votes for the NDC in the Ashanti Region, intimating that the 1 million votes target was an underestimation.

Earlier, the NDC parliamentary candidate for Manhyia North, Yawusa had indicated that the ruling party could not afford to lose the 2016 election to the NPP.

This, according to him, is because the party has laid a solid foundation for the takeoff of the country’s economy.

He called for all hands to be put on desk to ensure NDC’s retention of power.

Ahaji Baba, National Coordinator of the group, called for cordiality and unity to be built among the rank and file of the party, while urging members to rally behind President Mahama to deliver victory for the party.

He stated the NDC could not be complacent about the retention of power because of the seeming division in the NPP.

He disclosed that the AYM was ready to make the ground uncomfortable for the biggest opposition party to win power.
