Suspended New Patriotic Party (NPP) Second Vice-Chairman, Sammy Crabbe has vowed to challenge his suspension at the Supreme Court after a High Court threw out his suit.

“I will move all the way to the top” a defiant Sammy Crabbe told Joy News Top Story disagreeing with a judgement by an Accra High Court judge, Justice Sir Dennis Adjei.

The judge upheld the decision by the NPP Disciplinary Committee (DC) to suspend Sammy Crabbe accused of disrespecting party structures.

The judge said the Committee of the party has jurisdiction to hear and punish anyone who had been found to have breached some rules of the party. The suit was therefore without merit, the High Court maintained.

Mr. Crabbe has signaled that he would be heading to the Appeals Court by next week.

According to Mr. Crabbe, the fight is not about restoring him to his position, but rather ensuring that respect for the party’s constitution is restored.

He explained that according to the Party’s constitution, it is only the National Council that can discipline an elected national officer and not a DC.

He said just as the Electoral Commissioner enjoys security of tenure, and party officer duly elected cannot be suspended by an appointed body such as the DC.

“There is a process for touching elected officers and that process was not followed” he maintained.

His suspension amounts to a coup, he stressed and his cause is about ensuring that every elected party officer does not have to feel insecure or threatened with sanctions for expressing his views.

Former Deputy Speaker and chairman of the NPP’s Legal and Constitutional Committee, Prof. Mike Oquaye counseled Sammy Crabbe to show remorse if he is to stand any chance of being forgiven and restored.

But Sammy Crabbe has rejected the advice from “an unelected officer”.

“I have nothing to be remorseful about. If somebody is doing something that is wrong and I say it is wrong…I express remorse for what, absolutely not”.

Sammy Crabbe was suspended in December 2015 after the Disciplinary Committee said he had disrespected the party structure when he consistently criticized the decision to suspend his close ally and National Chairman Paul Afoko.

Two former NPP regional executives Mr Boye Laryea and Ms Gladys Tsotso Mann-Dedey had petitioned the party citing Sammy Crabbe for breaching Article 3(D)(iv) of the Constitution which enjoins party officials to abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the party.
