MPs Advised To Take Health Seriously

Members of Parliament (MP) have been advised to take their health seriously and go for regular medical check-ups due to the stressful nature of their work.

This follows the sudden death of Abetifi MP Peter Wiafe Pepera, who passed away a fortnight ago, only a day after attending to parliamentary duties.

The First Deputy Speaker, Ebo Barton-Odro gave the advice when the family of the late MP paid a courtesy call on him to officially inform him of the death of the legislator.

“We have been advised that when you are moving out and you have something to do in the future, just say, ‘God-willing’, because you never know what God’s intentions are for you in the next one minute. Again, another issue comes up: the health of the Members of Parliament and staff, because we really are overworked…and there is the need, I think…[for] regular medical check-ups [to be carried out] on us so that we can, at least, secure our future to some extent,” he advised, adding: “We can only say that God has given and he has taken away. We sympathise with you as a family. You have lost a great man, a gentleman, and we pray that the almighty God will give him a peaceful resting place.”

Meanwhile, the family of the late MP has slated his funeral for the 22nd and 23rd of July.
