Mahama Cant Accept Any Gift Valued More Than GHc 200 Amoako Baah

Did you know any president of the Republic of Ghana cannot under any circumstance receive 2.5million old Ghana cedis, now (250Ghc) as gift from anyone?

Yes! – No President of Ghana is entitled to such amount or gift which is estimated more than 200Ghc according to the constitution of the state.

The Head of the Department of History and Political Science of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr Richard Amoako Baah on NEAT FM’s morning show 'Ghana Montie' schooled host Kwesi Aboagye and his listeners that the president is only allowed to accept 200ghc as a gift.

This enlightenment was uttered when the political lecturer was discussing the President’s Ford Expedition car gift by one Burkinabe contractor, Djibril Kanazoe.

The 2010 Ford Expedition luxury vehicle was transported to Accra facilitated by the Ghana Embassy there, investigative journalist Manasseh Azure revealed.

Djibril Kanazoe admitted giving the car to the president but insists it was not a bribe – but Dr Amoako Baah argued that the value of the car exceeds what the president is mandated to accept.

“We have laws in this country and the gift law says the president is not supposed to take more than 200Ghc, above that is inappropriate. The president can face impeachment,” he said.

“The gesture by the contractor is for a reason. Why didn’t the president award the contract to a Ghanaian contractor?” he quizzed.
