Honour Police Invitation Over Missing Party Cash - Twum Boafo Lambasts Freddie Blay

NDC fire brand Kojo Twum Boafo said the acting National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party Freddie Blay lacks the moral right to talk about corruption. He said Freddie Blay is under police investigation over some corrupt acts that occurred at the party headquarters last year of which he’s deliberately failing to cooperate with the police to get to the bottom of.

Mr Twum Boafo was reacting to a news conference chaired by the Mr Freddie Blay, where the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) demanded a bi-partisan probe into the car gift saga. Mr Blay who believes Parliament will do a good job on dealing with the matter also challenged the President to respond to the issue and clear his name.

“The President who is personally and directly involved in this bribery allegation has thus far refused to speak on matter, choosing, instead, to let his paid spokespersons. My message to His Excellency the President is this: Mr. President, please speak on your own behalf and in your own defense! The giver, your friend, has confessed that he has given his friend in government who has since helped him to secure government contracts a gift of a sports utility vehicle. Mr President, it will be better to come out and defend yourself because your friend, Kanazoe has confessed to giving you bribe” Mr. Blay stated. You have also flouted your own code of conduct which debars any government appointee from talking gift. If our request does not yield results, we the NPP will be left with no other choice than to drag you Mr President to CHRAJ” he adds

But the tough talking government communications team member said Freddy Blay lacks the moral right to talk about corruption.

“I found it nauseating listening to Freddie Blay talk about corruption. Has honoured his invitation by the police to assist in the investigation over the missing money at the party office? Do you remember how he dubiously activated a dormant account of the NPP, and managed to siphon millions of cedis to fund his and his boss Akufo-Addo’s travels and other dubious political activities. The police is looking for him, he should go and answer questions on how the money got missing. How this man got the nerve to accuse President Mahama of corruption only God knows. Freddie Blay seems to be the hurricane of corruption because wherever he steps he never disappoints by clothing or dousing himself in corrupt activities. Freddie Blay who will have corruption chasing him to the grave should be the last person ever to open his mouth to talk about corruption. He should leave president Mahama alone because my president is innocent and incorruptible” he adds

Meanwhile President Mahama has dismissed the bribery allegations describing it as baseless. The President told a gathering at Ashaiman during his ‘accounting to the people tour’ of the Greater Accra region that the allegations will not stick because Ghanaians are discerning.

"The allegation of corruption is baseless. Baseless accusations won’t win you the Presidency. Ghanaians are discerning and I believe come November 7, they will make their decision," he said.

Kojo Twum Boafo who is also the CEO of the Free Zones had this to say following the president’s statement

“In fact if I had my own way I would have advised the president not to speak to the issue at all because it’s a useless and bogus story. But be that as it may I want to ask Mannesah Awuni Azuri that how come he doesn’t find it necessary to also investigate political leaders who are engaged in all sorts of dubious things and yet want an opportunity to lead the country. Doesn’t he know that there are flag bearers in this country who have killed their wives under very mysterious circumstances, flag bearers who are in the habit of smoking weed all over the place as being confessed by his close associates, people who have cocaine business men financing their campaign and so on…why isn’t he interested in that” he asks

The vehicle which was given to President Mahama in 2012 by a Burkinabe contractor, Oumarou Djibril Kanazoe has raised questions about the possibility of the President engaging in a conflict of interest situation. The Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) is this morning beginning a detailed assessment of two petitions accusing the President of conflict of interest. Deputy Commissioner of CHRAJ, Joseph Whittal has assured the public it will not allow any political pressure to interfere with its investigations. But it appears the NPP is not convinced with the Commission’s assurances and are asking for a bipartisan probe. He indicated that it will do President John Mahama a lot of good if he comes out to defend himself after the exposé.
