Charlotte Osei Will Be Like Nebuchadnezzar If She Does Not Change...

The Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe is warning the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Charlotte Osei not to compromise her integrity just to ensure the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) is retained in power.

Simon Osei-Mensah said, the EC boss risked being like 'King Nebuchadnezzar whom according to the Bible, was turned into a beast for disobeying God'.

His comment comes after the Chief Justice; Georgina Wood on Thursday chided the EC against its action that could plunge the country into chaos after it failed to comply with a ruling to steps being taking to expunge names of people who registered with the NHIS cards from the electoral register.

The Chief Justice who chaired the panel of five hearing a case brought to it by Abu Ramadan bemoaned the lackluster attitude of the electoral body.

The Supreme Court subsequently ordered the Commission to submit before it, a comprehensive list of all persons who registered with NHIS cards in 2012, by June 29.

Additionally, the apex court directed the EC to develop guidelines on the specific processes and methods it intends to adopt in implementing the orders in the May 5 judgement on the voters register.

In support, Simon Osei-Mensah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday expressed shock at the ‘headstrong’ posture adopted by the EC Chairperson.

In his view, a free and fair election is premised on a credible voters register accepted by all political parties contesting the elections.

“I disagree with the notion that elections are won at the polling station; elections are won through the process put together by the EC” he stressed.

The Bosomtwe MP maintained that, the decision by the EC to use the voter exhibition exercise to clean the bloated register will not make the roll credible.

“Charlotte Osei will be like Nebuchadnezzar if she does not change her behaviour but will not allow her to destroy the peace in Ghana” he added.

In a quick rebuttal, a member of the NDC communications team, Edward Bawa disagreed with the NPP man.

He indicated that the Ms. Charlotte Osei cannot be blamed for the NPP’s dwindling electoral fortunes since she is doing a professional job

Rather, Mr. Bawa urged the opposition party to concentrate on strengthening its agents at the polling station ahead of the general elections.
