Kotoko Sacks Opoku Nti

The General Manager of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Samuel Opoku Nti, has been sacked by the Board of Directors.

A letter dated June 21, 2016 and signed by the Board Chairman, Paul Adu Gyamfi, said Opoku Nti ceases to be the General Manager of the club effective, June 30, 2016.

Per the letter, Mr Nti ceases to hold himself as the General Manager of the Kotoko football club. Thus, he cannot sign or disengage any player without recourse to the board.

He has since been asked to prepare his handing over note and submit it to the board.

Opoku Nti was appointed into an acting capacity in 2013 and a year later, elevated as the substantive manager of the club till June 30, 2016.

In a separate letter dated June 22, 2016, also signed by the board Chairman to ‘step aside coach’ David Duncan, the board withdrew the unilateral letter signed by Opoku Nti asking him (Duncan) to step aside indefinitely.

The letter apologized to Coach Duncan and said Opoku Nti was ill informed about the ramifications in breaching his contract.

Indeed, prior to Opoku Nti and his team taking the decision against Coach Duncan, the Board Chairman had instructed that the decision be put on hold until after a management/board meeting.

However, contrary to Mr Adu-Gyamfi’s instructions, Opoku Nti and his team wrote to Coach Duncan asking him to step aside.

The letter was, however, silent on the future of Coach Duncan with Kotoko but sources say the board was working out his outstanding salaries and benefits to part ways with him on mutual grounds.

The letter, however, asked Opoku Nti and team should to supervise the start of the second round on the Premier League which kicks off on Sunday until otherwise stated.

Opoku Nti is, however, to indicate in writing if he is unwilling to do so.
