Okomfuor Kwaadee Shocks Fans

Prolific, thought provoking and humorous hip life artiste, Okomfuor Kwaadee, real name Jerry Anaaba, who has been on hibernation for over three years now after the release of his fourth album (Nsem Pii), last weekend astonished his fans with what can best be described as the biggest come back in the history of show business in Ghana. Kwadee, performed at the National Theater last Saturday, October 3, as the main act on a platform to stage a comeback on a concert dubbed Kwaadee In Concert to officially launch his new and fifth album titled Mea me nie. When Kwaadee announced his re-emergence through some media interviews some weeks ago, and promised to put up a show, many disbelieved him. Questions were raised, with many doubting his ability to perform well on stage due to his alleged mental instability. Contrary to the expectations of many, Okomfuor silenced his critics and shook the very foundation of the National Theater with his performance. For the first time ever he performed back to back for well over one hour with a live band. Anxious fans of the hiplife artiste in the auditorium could not help but stand on their feet and sang along with him all through his performance. Though the National Theater was not filled to capacity, it was obvious everybody present had a fan in the line-up of the various artistes: Echo, Ayigbe Edem, Bradez, Okyeame Kwame, Obour, Flava of Ashawo fame from Nigeria, Samini who flew from the UK for the show and other hip life artistes who came on stage to entertain the crowd. According to Kwaadee, he has a new image and a new personality he wants to project. He also has a new name which he repeated several times throughout the chorus of his new song. Kwaadees new name is KWAME AWU DI or KWAME GWE. Asked what that means, he replied i was born on Saturday and Kwame is the name for people born on those days, and left the rest of the explanation for people to do their own conjecturing. Abraham Ohene Djan, Chief Executive Officer of OM Music and organizer of the event, expressed satisfaction at the turn of events. You know when this whole idea of a big show for Kwaadee came up, we didnt want to wait for any sponsor because we knew that obviously they were going to drag the whole event backIm grateful to the media for their support in making this a huge success, he said. Last year, Kwadee who had issues with his health and state of mind, moved to Navrongo in the Upper East region to cool off and spend some time with his family after news went round in the media that he had gone mad. He later moved to an unknown location at Asamankese in the Eastern Region early this year, where he stayed until he moved back to Accra few months ago. Okomfuor Kwaadee hails from Navrongo in the Upper East Region of Ghana. He attended Martyrs of Uganda Preparatory School in Kumasi after which he proceeded to Navrongo Senior Secondary School. He has since birth dreamt of becoming a musician. His dreams came true by the kind courtesy of Vybetown Records, a subsidiary of Vybetown Entertainment Consult, an entertainment consultancy based in Kumasi. His first album, 'Kwaadee' which was also the title track, brought out his ingenuity and originality left an ineradicable mark on the minds of music lovers. With some powerful lyrics and a traditional style of instrumentation, typical of a true Ghanaian, Kwadee took hip-life to a completely different level. Okomfuor goes back to the grassroots by waxing lyrically whiles narrating stories (Just like in folktales) and rhyming as well. This new style held everyone both old and young spellbound while also imparting very useful advice on the listener. He has four albums to his credit. His debut was entitled Kwaadee, the second album was named Me Toa so. Okomfuor Se Koo was the third album whiles the fourth Nsem Pii.
