90% Of Ghanaians Are Extremely Poor; Vote CPP For 'Apam Foforo' - Ivor Greenstreet

Mr. Ivor Kobina Greenstreet, Presidential candidate of the Convention People's Party (CPP), outlined his vision for Ghanaians on Tuesday during the 2016 Evening Encounter Series organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA).

The Evening Encounters aim at providing political parties an opportunity to present their candidates and manifestoes to the electorates.

During this year's encounter held at the Alisa Hotel in Accra, Mr. Greenstreet disclosed his road map to boost employment in the country.

He noted that recent statistics conducted by his party prove that 30 per cent of the population is poor with 90 percent extremely poor.

According to him, there is high cost of living and that Ghana is indeed in deep crises.

He further stated that 53 per cent of households in Accra occupy a single room, adding that this is very appalling for the living conditions of Ghanaians.

Ivor Greenstreet further painted a gloomy picture about the state of the economy, claiming “five million Ghanaians do not have access to toilets. Ghana is second in Africa after Sudan for open defecation and second in cholera after Nigeria. Over 29 thousand Ghanaians were affected by cholera in the year 2014 and our national capital had 20 thousand cases resulting in an 121 deaths. This is absolutely unacceptable and indeed impermissible in the 21st Century.”

Due to this, Mr. Greenstreet has implored Ghanaians to vote the CPP into power and under his able leadership; Ghana will see significant progress which will translate into better living conditions for Ghanaians, particularly the youth.

“That is why I believe there is the need for a new covenant with the people of Ghana. That is what the CPP is offering Ghanaians. 'Apam Foforo'; it is founded on our values of self-determination, social justice and Pan-Africanism," he said.
