The Youth League of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has hit back at the party’s flagbearer, Ivor Greenstreet, after he reportedly suggested that the group acted arbitrarily in petitioning the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice, (CHRAJ), over President John Mahama’s Ford Expedition gift saga.
Speaking to Citi News, the Secretary to the Youth League, Hardi Yakubu, maintained that their petition had the backing of the party.
“What the youth league did, it was an action that was done on behalf of the youth of Ghana. Did we consult the party? Yes. We took the petition to the General Secretary who is the chief administrator of the party so yes, we did.”
At the Institute of Economic Affairs’ (IEA) Evening Encounter Series on [Wednesday], the CPP Presidential candidate intimated that, the Youth League’s comments and actions about the Ford Expedition Saga were not in line with the party’s position.
But in Mr. Yakubu’s view, the Youth League did not even need to consult before petitioning CHRAJ given the party’s position and ideology on corruption.
“So if your ideology is anti-corruption, you don’t need party central committees to the tell you that this action is not right and therefore you have to take this kind of step,” Mr. Yakubu explained.
