NDC Cautions Public Against Fraudsters

The Ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) has cautioned the general public against activities of fraudsters duping unsuspecting people in the name of the party.

NDC says it has observed with disquiet that for some time now, various acts of fraud perpetrated by some unscrupulous people using names of senior members of the party.

A brief statement issued and signed by the party’s General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketsia said the modus operandi of these fraudsters is to use the names of Executive Committee members of the party and other varied means including social media to dupe unsuspecting victims of their monies and other valuables.

The party therefore wishes to distance itself from all such dastardly acts and advises the public to immediately report to the police, any such conduct, act or persons purporting to be acting on behalf of any such senior member of the party with the view to making personal gains by way of money, favour or otherwise.

A couple of weeks ago, some highly placed government officials reportedly suffered similar fate when a man used names of the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, Presidential Staffer, Dr. Clement Apaak, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo and Colonel Mbawine Atintande, a former Director of Public Affairs of the Ghana Armed Forces, at various times, to dupe people.

The suspects, said to have acted as a staff of the Flagstaff House who work with some of the named officials, duped the victims under the pretext of helping them to secure jobs, auction cars, tractors, contracts, and to clear goods at the ports.

In a separate interview with the Republic Newspaper the Deputy Chief Scribe of the party Mr. Koku Anyidoho said he has personally been a victim of the activities of these fraudsters

“Yes I have been a victim. My National Organizer Kofi Adams has also fallen victim to these scams. The Chairman and other Executives have suffered the same fate. We have had calls that people have created fake Facebook accounts in our names and defrauding people claiming we want money to get them jobs and auction cars. Trust me a number of party guys after being defrauded, have called us to complain. They don’t only create fake books accounts but they also print our call cards themselves and use it to go to offices claiming we have sent them” he said

He said the Functional Executive Committee has found it necessary to bring the matter to the attention of the public to also clarify some misconceptions.

“By this statement we also want our party people and for that matter the general public to know that we at the party headquarters have never and will never collect anybody’s money as a condition to helping our party members. We are party leaders who are committed to the course of the party and the welfare of our followers: and not because of money and so we want our people to disabuse their minds of that misconception created by some unscrupulous people. We are here to serve the interest of our hardworking rank and file as well as the good people of Ghana and not to collect their money. he emphasized….
