Prez Mahama Is Still Our "Number 1" Citizen . . . You Can't Disrespect Him - Atik

General Secretary of the People's National Convention (PNC) Atik Mohammed has condemned the alleged attack on President John Dramani Mahama during his visit to the Ejisu municipality in the Ashanti Region.

Reports indicated that stones were hurled at the Presidential convoy, apparently in protest against the candidature of the President.

Addressing the issue on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Atik Mohammed admonished the Police Service not to treat perpetrators of the act with kid's gloves.

He noted that often people with political affiliations engage in violent acts to pledge allegiance to their parties and they go scot free.

He said justice has been clouded by political interferences and so, sometimes social deviants assume "political colours" and hide behind their parties to commit crimes.

Atik Mohammed therefore called on the Police to hold investigations into the alleged violence at the President and arrest the perpetrators to deter other people from engaging in violent activities.

Violence is gaining some special place in our politics. And it is threatening…This election is an election where the stakes are higher. Let nobody kid himself into thinking that this is like any other election. No, careers are at stake. Futures are at stake. The country is at stake…

He further urged Ghanaians to respect the personality of President John Dramani Mahama, saying “he is still the number 1 citizen of this Republic. Whether you like him or not, he is the President of this Republic. You can’t disrespect him to that point.”
