EC Must Not Lean Towards Any Party Osafo-Maafo

A former Minister of Finance, Mr Yaw Osafo-Maafo, has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) not to lean towards any of the political parties contesting this year’s election, since that will undermine the peace all Ghanaians are yearning for.

He has thus asked the EC to carry out its activities in a free, fair and transparent manner in order to sustain the peace and tranquillity in the country.

Mr Osafo-Maafo, who is a leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), made the call when he addressed a political rally at Akyem Afosu in the Birim North District in the Eastern Region last weekend.

Contesting parties

Mr Osafo-Maafo emphasised that if the political parties felt that the EC had been fair, objective and transparent in the conduct of the election, both the victor and the vanquished would accept the results of the polls in good faith without any qualms.

The former minister also advised the police and other security agencies to be objective in their dealings with the various political parties before and during the election to the satisfaction of all.

He stressed that the NPP would not sit aloof for the security agencies to intimidate its members before or during the election.

Mr Osafo-Maafo, therefore, enjoined the security agencies to discharge their duties professionally without any political interference to favour the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

He said successive governments had played various roles in the development of the nation so President Mahama should not boast that the development projects the NDC had provided were unprecedented in the country so Ghanaians should retain the party in power.

Cost of projects

Mr Osafo-Maafo urged the President to give the cost of each of the projects his government had provided in his “Accounting to the people” tour as the NPP suspected that the cost of the projects had been inflated and the rest of the money misapplied.

He called on the electorate to reject President Mahama’s vain promises by voting him out in the upcoming general election and usher in Nana Akufo-Addo whose honour was intact and was also committed to the progress of the country and the dignity of the people.

Mr John Osei-Frimpong, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Abirem, said he felt elated by the massive turnout and urged the people to translate their support into votes  on November 7, 2016  in order to enjoy better governance and improvement in their living standards.

He gave an assurance that the NPP government would reduce the outrageous electricity tariffs which were negatively affecting businesses.

According to Mr Osei-Frimpong, Nana Akufo-Addo’s government will restore the allowances of trainee teachers and nurses, which have been cancelled by the NDC government.

He, therefore, appealed to the electorate to vote massively for the NPP in the upcoming polls.
