Cease Fire: NDC Warns Spio and Ahwoi

The Functional Executive Committee (FEC), acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress and in consultation with its Council of Elders has called on Ato Ahwoi and Spio Garbrah to desist from utterances that could inflame passions and undermine the unity of the party. The two party stalwarts have been involved in a bitter exchange of words in recent days. In a statement issued today, Tuesday, October 6th, and signed by its National Chairman, Dr. Kwabena Adjei, the NDC said while the party tolerates and encourages progressive debate and expression of divergent views on matters relating to the performance of the government and party in general, it nevertheless disapproves of criticisms and utterances that tend to bring the government and the party into disrepute and ridicule. Equally so, the statement added, we eschew political debates that degenerate into personal attacks. According to the statement, the leadership of the party is arranging to meet all concerned parties as soon as practicable to find an amicable solution to the problem in the supreme interest of the government and party. The leadership is further appealing to the rank and file of the party to remain calm and steadfast in their resolve to build a strong and united party, the statement ended. Later in an interview on PEACEFM News@6pm, Presidential Staffer and Dep. National Organiser of the NDC, Yaw Boateng-Gyan, stated that as leaders of the party, they felt it was time to call the two feuding personalities to order and resolve whatever differences existing between them.
