Delles Ploy To Sell CPP Unveiled?

The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) in the United Kingdom(UK) is accusing the party chairman, Professor Edmund Delle, and other executives of the CPP in Ghana of a deliberate attempt to sell the CPP to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) for personal, financial rewards.

They  are convinced  the June suspension of the General Secretary, Nii Akomfrah and Youth Organiser, Ernesto Yeboah from the party, after they publicly condemned President Mahama for accepting a gift have “no merits, no basis and are politically motivated, selective, and a cowardly attempt by the executives to sell the party off for financial gains”.

“…these suspensions further confirm the suspicion that you and some of your colleague national executives including our presidential candidate are under the direct control and management of the NDC with the ultimate agenda of selling-off our party to them for financial rewards,” the CPP-UK further alleged.

He said the suspensions were also an attempt to silence objective, honest, brave and incorruptible voices of dissent in the party; describing the two suspended executives as CPP’s leading advocates.

In an 11 July,2016 resolution signed by the Regional Secretary, Kyei Anim-Sarpong and members of the regional executive committee admonished the chairman to redeem what is left of his tarnished reputation by rescinding the suspensions without conditions. The immediate reinstatement of the general secretary and the youth organiser, he said, would be the first positive step to help unify the party for the greater good.

Professor Delle has five working days to act or the committee reserves the right to exercise any options necessary to save the party from being sold to the NDC.

Meanwhile, the convenor of the Progressive Militant Old Guards of the dynamic CPP, Comrade Kwame Wiafe, has sent a solidarity message to the youth league, admiring their courage to dare and take the destiny of the party into their own hands.

“Just notice how deeply heart-warming, how greatly reassuring and such a pleasant surprise to hear the welcome news of open defiance in the form of constructive criticism against the obnoxious activities of some reactionary elements seeking to take control of the leadership of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and harness the party’s fortunes or misfortunes to satisfy their own narrow-minded and selfish interest,” he stated in a press release yesterday.

He said, given its historical background, unique philosophical principles, ideas and world outlook which defines its image, destiny and identity, the CPP can never and should never merge with any political party either of a similar or parallel nature, adding that while the party may be open to formation of alliances in defence of a commonly held national interest, it should at all times act in defence of its own vested interest and cherished ideas.

“Yours is the ultimate battle to win the very heart and soul of the great CPP in its efforts to reassert its independence and fight off the threat to submerge its political identity blacken its public image and superimpose the image of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in its place. It is a farcical political experiment and an exercise in futility, a wholly despicable conspiracy in which some leading members of the CPP are deeply involved,” he stressed.

He further admonished the youth to uphold their morals stating that, this is the battle, the youth of the party have courageously and defiantly enjoined for themselves. Their determination to battle the forces working against the party’s progress and development he said is commendable.

He noted that it is a battle in which a massive arsenal of political weaponry could be lined up against their defences by both known and unknown detractors.

“You will encounter all manner of setbacks and vicious criticism from sections of your own rank and file membership. You should also expect a treacherous betrayal of the course you stand for, by some members who may be willing to sell off your struggles for “thirty pieces of silver”.

He stressed that the battle is winnable  against sheer gluttonous human greed, a struggle against corruption, nepotism, perfidy and political chicanery as well as all social vices whose combined negative impact threaten to ruin the solid foundations in which the party was founded.

He urged the youth to never doubt the politically correct party principles they have set themselves up to uphold and to defend. The battle he said also touches on endemic decadence in the society.

“Today, a rot has set its cancerous spread and decadence into our human virtues and public institutions. Our belief in the merit of our systems like justice, honesty, integrity, loyalty to a cause have all become endangered species in a society where avarice and man’s insane quest for wealth reigns supreme,” he said

Mr. Wiafe also assured support and confidence of loyal members of CPP who for various reasons may not be actively involved but who believe strongly that the battle is theirs also.

“We look forward to a not so distant future when the public image of the CPP as a party of doom and gloom shall be lifted and be replaced by a new public image as a popular party and the preferred choice by the electorate willing and confident and ready to entrust it with political power in the governance of this country,” he stated.
