New GUSA Executives Sworn Into Office

An eight-member Executive Committee of the Ghana Universities Sports Association (GUSA) have elected and sworn into office for the next four years. Dr Ernest Awanta, Chairman of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) amalgamated sports clubs was elected as the President, Mr Albert Yawson of University for Development Studies (UDS), Vice-President, Mr Daniel Apaak, chief coach of UCC, Secretary-General and Mr Elvis Hagan, senior coach of UCC- Treasurer. The rest of the members include Mr Kwaku Prempeh of KNUST, Chairman of the Technical Committee, Mr Anthony Tetteh Opai, principal coach of U.G, Legon, Mr Samuel Nunoo, chairman of amalgamated sports, University of Mines and Technology, (UMAT) and Mr Ebo Koomson from the SRC of UEW. Dr Awanta in his acceptance speech on behalf of the newly elected members congratulated the outgoing executive officers for their hard work. He thanked members of the Association for the trust reposed in them to steer affairs of the Universities. Dr Awanta also charged his team of executives to face the new challenges squarely to achieve the needed results. Mr Apaak said GUSA plans to send a formal written appreciation to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for its financial assistance which enabled the Association to be represented by the 67 students and officials in the Belgrade Games. He said a delegation from GUSA will soon pay a courtesy call to thank President John Atta Mills for the financial assistance and also to congratulate him on his elevation as one time President of GUSA and now President of the country. The Association has meanwhile appealed to sporting Clubs and other benevolent organisations and corporate bodies to donate generously to improve and support activities of the association.
