School children screened at Ajumako Bisease

Over 200 children from the Bisease Anglican Development Centre in the Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District were given health screening. They were taken through physical, eyes, throat, nose, dental, laboratory and medical examination, while about 90 adults also received free counselling and voluntary HIV/AIDS test. The programme was sponsored by compassion International, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) based in the USA. The screening was performed by a 30-man medical team, Mission Medical Relief (MMR), from the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital led by Miss Edem Ameko, a nurse and Administrative Secretary of MMR. Rev. Father Myles Abadoo, Parish Priest In-charge of Saint Luke Anglican church at Bisease, called on parents to take health screening of their children as a major responsibility. He said by adopting this periodically the nation would produce healthy future leaders. Mr Eugene Charles Kitson Co-ordinator of the Centre said 110 of the 200 children have already been adopted by their foreign donor parents who would maintain them until they attained the age 21. He appealed to people and organisations to donate poly tanks and books to support the centre.
