Times Are Tough, Rough & Hard . . . - Kweku Baako

Kweku Baako has pooh-poohed Finance Minister, Seth Tekper's optimistic outlook of the country's economy.

Hon. Seth Tekper presented a review and a supplementary budget to Parliament and requested over 1 billion cedis to be approved by the Legislative House to help government in restoring confidence in the economy.

The Minister noted that there were some shortfalls in revenue and thus the monies being requested for would be used to revamp sectors of the economy that needed re-alignment.

He also added that Ghana's currency is gradually experiencing a boost, hence a major rise in the growth of the economy.

Responding to the issue on Peace FM's Kokrokoo, Mr. Baako held strongly that Ghana's economy is currently not in a healthy state.

According to him, the statistics are not the panacea to the plight of Ghanaians because the "reality is that Ghanaians are suffering".

He noted that national development has never been at a standstill but the significant thing is how the developmental projects impact the lives of Ghanaians.

"If you examine the reality; times are really tough, rough and hard," he said.

Though he wouldn't undermine the budget, he however wants the government to rather resolve the huge challenges confronting the nation.

“I’m too sure there is anybody out there, any Ghanaian, who thinks this economy is healthy. I don’t believe it. For development, it’s never in abeyance. There’s no time that development has come to a standstill. So, there’s no time that you won’t build projects here or there. The issue is whether those projects, you building within the time frame, are having impact on the quality of living," he told Nana Yaw Kesse sit-in host on the 'kokrokoo' programme.
