Do Not Take Your Health for Granted

Not very long ago, I was at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra to donate blood as I always do every four months and was terribly amazed at what I saw. My two hours stay on the premises of the hospital made me cherish my health so much. I was there by the Grace of God to donate blood to save a life and not to check my health status. If you rarely visit or attend hospital you ought to be very grateful to God. I saw people holding all kings sizes and colours of envelopes with contents I found out later to be receipts and referral notes from doctors of other hospitals, laboratory test result, X-rays, prescriptions and receipts of medical attention. My curiosity also led me into witnessing scenes of family members trying to pool resources to save patients related to them. Other people tried to link up with hospital staff to get excellent medical advice and attention. Some of the hospital staff also directed patients to doctors or consultants they felt were more competent to attend to them. The worrying aspect of this scenario is the fact that all these people had serious health problems and required some help from medical practitioners and consultants. Just try in your free time to visit any of the medical facilities in the country and see how people are desperately struggling to survive. All you see as you stroll around are weary, sorrowful and unpleasant faces. It is unfortunate that very often, we as human beings take our health for granted. It you are healthy remember to thank God for it because there is no substitute for good health. We all ought to know that since we cannot substitute our health for anything, we have to hold it in very high esteem.
