Payment Structure Of National Football Teams Must Change - Sports Minister

Sports Minister, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuye is determined to have the payment policy structure of the national football teams changed to benefit all sporting disciplines.

The Sports Minister believes the payment policy of the national football teams is not helping as such killing our sports men and women, and something ought to be done with immediate effect.

According to him, he will see to it that that structure benefits all the national teams and not only footballers.

The Sports Minister spoke after the Black Satellites failed to beat Senegal to qualify for the upcoming African Youth Championship.

“The Black Satellites are not paid winning bonuses like the Black Stars but rather they’re paid qualification bonuses and this are some of the things as a country we must change. Why should the Black Stars take winning bonuses for every match, and the satellites take qualification bonuses, are they all not national teams? He asked.

He further remarked that, if all agrees that government is paying qualification bonuses to everyone, including swimming, weightlifting, boxing, athletics, hockey and rather paying winning bonuses of every match to only Black Stars, it won’t go well for the other national teams.

“If we want to inspire people to give their best for this country, we must change that structure . . . These are some of the things we must do as a nation . . . Winning bonuses must not only be paid to footballers but rather all sporting athletes, and that structure will change,” Nii Lantey stressed.
