Emmanuel Frimpong on trial at Sporting Kansas

The Ghana international has arrived in United States of America for a two-week trial, in a bid to push for a move.

Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong has been handed a two-week trial by Major League Soccer side Sporting Kansas City FC.

The 24-year-old, who started his career in England with Arsenal and made his Premier League debut at 19, has been a free agent since mutually terminating his contract with Russian side Ufa in May.

Peter Vermes, Sporting Kansas manager, confirmed Frimpong has joined on trial after being asked if he was just training with the side.

"Always a trial. Everything is always a trial, always," he told the club's website. "We are trying to look at where he is now. I don't care what the past was; it's where he is now. We're taking a look at him, just taking a look at him [to see if we can give him a contract or not]," he added.

Frimpong has previously had stints Wolverhampton Wanderers, Charlton Athletic, Fulham and Barnsley.

Frimpong, who previously represented England at the youth level, made his debut appearance for Ghana in 2013 against Sudan in the 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
